Jayde
She kept her head down as she walked into the park, the sun barely awake. She shivered in the coolness of dawn, dew making shoes slide on the grass, reflecting the first rays of daylight. Her face was blank as she walked over to the swings, sitting on one of the middle sets, reliving a memory from a time of her recent past.
It had just been a week ago, where she had woke up in bed, him bent over her, holding her hand whispering to her in her sleep. She had smiled, turning her head to him, their skin brushing against each other's.
She felt a familiar ach spread through her chest, and she kicked off form the ground, slowly swinging back and forth on the swing.
He had kissed her and taken her into his arms. Sliding them into the darkness, holding her closely as they flew through the city together. Night, but the lights bright in their eyes making it their day together. He had stepped back into reality here, in the park, where she had sat on this swing. He stood behind her and pushed her gently, swinging her higher into the air. She had laughed, enjoying his hands pressing to her back. Her hair rustling in the breeze as she flew closer to him, and farther away, then closer again. And always, he was right behind her, with his hands out, ready to brace her and feel her and touch her, but only to push her back out again.
She swung higher, feeling gravity lessen as she became weightless for the second where she switched directions. She pushed herself harder, determined to get higher, moving faster on the swing. She clenched her jaw and began breathing heavier as she moved higher from the earth, letting herself into the sky, changing colors from the rising sun reflecting off the clouds.
Jump. He had whispered across her mind. His thoughts caressed hers, but he needn't sooth her. She had no doubt in her mind from him. She let herself go, feeling the swing drop from under her, move back closer to him as she continued out, falling to the ground that seemed so far away. And yet she felt no fear. She knew the fall was temporary, and the landing would never come. She held her eyes open, her arms spread as wings while she tilted her head back and let out a breath. She could sense the ground coming up at her, and she laughed to herself as she fell, knowing that Aubrey was right with her, and he would never let her complete the sensation of crashing to the ground, never let her feel the pain.
She was swinging as high as the swing could go, the air whipping her face and resisting her, pushing her away from her destination, not allowing her to reach the sky. Finally she pushed herself off, one leg bent at the knee, the other out, ready to brace for the impact she had never been afraid of. Her arms spread once more, and she closed her eyes, trusting her heart. It was slow motion, of the air rustling up her legs now in reality, and the dream she was still caught up in. She once again, let out a breath and as her two selves merged, she looked down, the ground a breath away from her touch. Then the mist shifted under her, and her foot pierced the darkness. Her body easily sliding into the nothingness she had given her heart and soul to. She felt his arms around her waist and she breathed him in, feeling her chest swell with the love she held for him so deeply.
She blinked, and her dream was over. Her vision sped up, time fixing itself, no longer giving into the endless boundaries of love. The ground came up at her, and she landed hard. Her knee bent, her legs crumpling beneath her. She pushed her hands forward, bracing herself from completely falling. She knelt on hands and knees, gasping for air as tears found their way up, falling off her eyelids and down onto the ground she was now bound to.
