Aubrey
He was sitting on the roof of a building, watching the sunset when he heard her say his name. Stupid ungrateful bitch, he thought, regretting it the moment it had passed through his mind. He swung his leg against the building, feeling the steel in his boot vibrate when the rubber sole would bounce off the bricks. His other leg was bent at the knee, his elbow resting on it, propping up his head. He sighed audibly, laying back and closing his eyes. He tried to relax on the roof, but he had gotten used to her bed, and the shingles on the roof were a hell of a lot harder then he was up for.
Finally he gave up and sat up, pushing himself off the building. Letting his body into the darkness, he slowed his fall and clung to the shadows, floating over the dark streets. He felt the cool air breeze through him, and enjoyed the cold against his skin. He relaxed on the sky and hovered against the dark night, stars shining through him as though he were a storm cloud, the black mist dulling it's brightness. After a while he let himself down, closer to the ground. Slipping into a corner, he stepped from the shadows. Walking down the street slowly, he stared at a group of vampires that stared back, sizing him up. Finally they turned and swirled into dark shapes, melting into the shadows, flying away from him. He felt a smile slide onto his face, he hadn't even need stretch his aura to warn them.
Taking longer strides, he looked around the street, confidence swelling in him. He was one of the strongest vampires around, even though he was considered young. It wasn't about age; it was about how you took your victims. And he was reckless, which only added to his reputation. Though some vampires hunted in packs, and he was always alone, no one dared bother him. He rolled his shoulders back, stretching his arms out, his aura reaching out, thinning to it's extent, which was a lot farther then one could tell. He closed his eyes, still stretching. He lazily went over who were in the city, and caught an insight of what was going on.
A pack of vampires were feeding, some lost human they had caught. He felt the human's fear run through his mind, and the vampire's greed. Moving on, he saw a few loners, like himself, stalking the streets, hunger in their minds, farther down, was a room of sleeping vampires, and down the street was, confusion? He opened his eyes again, focusing his aura on the room where there were vampires, and a human. They should be feeding, he thought to himself, but the only thing the vampires felt were nervousness and confusion. He slid into the shadow, curiosity getting the better of him. One human trait that never dies, he thought to himself while speeding off through the darkness. Getting close to the building, he stepped from the shadows, not bothering to hide his appearance. He was in the heart of the town, where there were no humans, unless brought in by a vampire that had claimed them. He instantly smelled her, and anger filled him.
Stepping into the bar, his eyes instantly locked onto the back of her head, sitting at a table in the corner. He could feel the other vampires in the room still staring at her, and knew why they hadn't moved to her. She was wearing his jacket, and it was thick of his scent. He snickered to himself, there were older vampires in the room, and even they didn't dare move on this human who was alone in their presence because she was wearing his clothing. He let the humor die in him as he walked closer to her.
"I'm not here for you." She spoke before he had even gotten close to her.
"I didn't think so." He wasn't sure what to say to her; he hadn't really known what he was going to say to her in the first place when he had started to walk over to her. He couldn't be sure of where to go with this conversation, he couldn't let emotions through right now, fear of the other vampires sensing what ever he may feel for her. Especially love, for that would mean he cared and worried for her, giving him a weakness and a hole in his shields and a way to destroy him. He held his emotions deep inside of him, so that if another were to try and read them, he would sense it and retaliate. But for the moment, the other's auras were only hazily drifting around the room, not trying to pick up on anything, but still aware for any sudden changes. He decided to let her steer the conversation, though this was a dangerous move, considering she was emotional, and had nothing to hide for the fact that she was human.
"So why are you here?" He asked, giving her control of how to react to him still standing behind her.
"Why do you care?" She tapped her fingernails on the table, her words icy but still wanting a response. He could feel her shoving aside feelings for him, trying to remain careless as to why he was still talking to her. Though most of her was pleased he had followed her here.
"I don't." He replied, playing along. He could feel his words whip her, and a sting of rejection run through her, quickly hidden.
"Then why are you still talking to me?" She turned and stared into his eyes, and he knew she was daring him to take her. He looked straight back into hers, reaching his aura to her, searching through her mind, trying to figure out what she really was feeling. Anger flickered into her eyes, as she seemed to realize what he was doing. She blinked, and stared at him again. Reaching out again, he found her empty. He paused for a moment, not understanding. Then reached deeper, and only found his own thoughts in her mind, wondering what she was thinking. It was like looking into a mirror. But that was impossible, she was only a human. No one can keep themselves away from a probing mind, especially to a vampire.
"You're not the only one who knows how to hide." She said before standing up, glaring at him and waking away. He felt anger run through him, and forgot to keep it in check.
"So what was the point of coming here? What were you trying to prove?" He asked, spitting his words at her. She turned to look him in the eyes, sadness reflecting his anger.
"That it's not all up to you. That you can't expect me to be there, waiting forever." She sighed and shook her head, walking away from him.
"Then why even bother coming here?" He felt his emotions swirling inside him, loosing control of himself. She stopped, but didn't turn this time.
"Because, I needed to prove to myself, that I can walk away." And she proved it, continuing through the door and down the street. She didn't wait for him to come running after her; she knew he wasn't going to. He stood in the middle of the room, feeling her get farther and farther away.
"Can't control your humans, Aubrey?" Another vampire in the room joked. He felt his anger swerve, whipping the vampire. A slice mark appeared on his cheek, blood swelling up from the cut. He scoffed and walked out of the bar, the vampire not bold enough to strike him back.
He made his mind up not to go after her, even after realizing she may be attacked, and needed help getting out of the city. Scowling, he balled his fists at his sides, his teeth grit together as he stepped into the darkness, curled in a shadow, refusing to move like a stubborn child.
