Jayde
She was still in Aubrey’s arms, soaring through the night, a few hours later, not really going anywhere, just flying in silence. Jayde had kept her eyes closed for most of the time, her head resting on his shoulder, but now she opened them, glancing down. They were still in his part of the city, the full moon and stars the only source of light. Aubrey floated down, stepping from the darkness in front of the bar Jayde had stood in front of earlier that night.
She looked around, nothing in sight other then the buildings and dark streets. She felt his fingers brush over her cheek, turning her to face him. She licked her lips, her arms moving up, circling his neck while he kissed her softly. Pulling back, she glanced away, their fight not forgotten, but the reason for it seemed stupid now. She wondered why she had made such a big deal of it in the first place. It was a simple disagreement, a stupid reason to fight. She told herself, fingers playing with the neckline of his shirt.
“Aren’t all quarrels stupid?” He answered her thoughts, his pale skin glowing in the moonlight. She held her face still, not allowing any emotion to leak through her mask. Her mind had been closed since trying to resist Talyn, but already Aubrey had gotten in and read her thoughts, without her even noticing. Was it that easy to fall back into old habits? Scolding herself, she threw her walls up hastily, her face still turned away from him.
“I suppose so.” Thinking back, she tried to remember exactly why they had been fighting. She got as far back as the quarrel in her room and abandoned her memories, realizing it wasn’t just one fight but too many bickers. Biting back a sigh Jayde looked up at the sky, the stars bright against the darkness, and the full moon reflecting off the broken glass littering the streets below them.
“Why are you hiding from me?” He asked quietly, knowing to stay out of her sealed-off mind. She shrugged, not really having an answer, even for herself. Why am I hiding? Not knowing what to say to him, and not wanting to get lost in her thoughts, she just ignored it, and embraced the silence.
Aubrey let her skip it, and slowly descended, nearing his edge of the city. Jayde closed her eyes; taking a breath before feeling them slide from the shadows, her feet landing on the pavement. She focused on her feet a moment, then felt his fingers curl under her chin. She looked up at him, meeting his eyes.
They were still red, but deeper then normal. His eyes were only red when he was feeding, or thirsty. Now they were more crimson, probably corrupted from the vampiric blood he’d feasted on, his pupils contracted. Looking away, she forced herself not to stare at him. You can’t trust him. Her reason told her, but she wanted so badly to just fall into his eyes, let him take her and submit completely to whatever he would ask of her.
Gritting her teeth, she held back her tears as she felt disgust and self-loathing run through her, quickly turning to anger. Aubrey seemed to sense her mood change and stroked her face softly, whispered words into her ear. She closed her eyes, her body shaking slightly, willing herself not to cry. Weak, something in the back of her mind hissed, and she had to agree. She was still the most stubborn and strong willed, but she’d let him get past it all, and now he had a hold on her.
“What’s troubling you?” His voice brought her back to reality. She glanced up at him, unable to stop herself, her eyes flickering between his. Swallowing, she tried to control the muscles in her throat that had tightened. She just shrugged, her face turning down again.
His hands caught her again, forcing her eyes back to his. She took a breath, her eyes shutting briefly, and then pushed everything aside. Forget it all, nothing matters. Just forget it and you can move on. She thought silently, feeling the ache in her chest subside. Meeting Aubrey’s gaze again, she forced a smile, shaking her head slightly.
“Nothing’s bothering me,” she lied. His eyes were glazed, and she knew with him in this state, he probably wouldn’t notice her fake content. As if answering her thoughts, he broke into a smile, his fangs glittering. She fought the urge to roll her eyes, but instead held her smile strong.
“Alright.” He spoke softly, stepping closer to her. His hand brushed her hair back, catching her off-guard. Blinking a few times, her heart beat faster as his lips met hers, his hands pulling her tight against him. Struggling against his mouth a moment, she finally gave up and let him kiss her; her hands lay on his shoulders. After a moment, she pulled back, but he stepped forward, following her. His tongue was demanding, his hands dominating hers. She winced as he gripped her wrist too tightly, realizing that he wasn’t fully aware of anything, his mind still clouded by bloodlust.
“Aubrey,” she turned her face away from his lips, which moved down to her throat, unaffected by her moving, now just searching for new skin. Closing her eyes a moment, she felt her mind fuzz over as he started gently sucking, her heart fluttering. Trying to keep her senses, she pushed him away slightly, not wanting to give in to him again. She began to step back, her hands pressed against his chest, creating space between them, but he reached up, grabbing her wrists, and pushed her back into the building behind them. Gasping as her head hit the wall hard, she felt the rough brick scrape along her back as he pushed her up the wall, his hands now on her hips, his lips still firmly attached to her throat. She took a deep breath, focusing on his lips, and felt his fangs slide along her skin, but not moving to pierce her. At least that’s a bit of good news, she thought to herself, trying to stay sane while he ground his hard-on against her.
“Aubrey,” she tried again, though her will was now weakened. Her hands rose to his neck, playing in the smalls of his hair, tracing his smooth skin. Her eyes closed briefly, almost giving into the pleasure, but she forced them open again, her fingers wrapping around a section of his hair, jerking his head back from her throat.
He snarled, his hand moving from her hip to grab her other arm, pulling her from the wall and twisting it behind her. She slid from him, no longer pressed against the wall and gasped slightly as he twisted her arm farther. Her hand released his hair, and she turned slightly to relieve the pain. He let go suddenly, grabbing her hips again roughly, now behind her. She stood straighter, surprised. Aubrey nipped at her ear, one hand sliding up her, cupping her breast. Jayde trembled, torn between forcing him off and letting him take her, the latter winning with each kiss he placed on her ear and neck, moving down slowly, her head tilting to the side, allowing him more skin.
Her breathing was ragged, coming too quick in short gasps, as her mind screamed for him and against him, still fighting itself. She opened her eyes, trying to gather strength to push him off her, when the better section of her mind was craving more. Her eyes fell onto a street sign and she realized she was only a block or two from her house. We could fuck there, part of her mind mumbled and she shook her head slightly, trying to regain her sanity.
Turning to face Aubrey, she tilted her face up to his, his eyes moving over her as he tried to figure out what she was doing, finally letting her push against him and closed his eyes, his lips moving for hers. She felt his hands start to move over her, and before their lips met she stepped back, spinning and running from him, leaving him blinking and stunned, his lust slowing his reaction. A moment passed and anger settled on his face, releasing himself into the shadow, moving after her slowly, enjoying the chase.
Jayde ran quicker, knowing he had to be following by now. Rounding a corner, she cut across someone’s lawn and made it into her back yard, hoping her back door was unlocked. Grabbing the handle, she jerked it and grimaced, as it didn’t turn for her. Looking up at her balcony, she sighed. There was no way she could get up there. The small hairs on the back of her neck stood on end, and she knew he was there.
Turning slowly, Jayde watched him step from the shadows, a predator’s smile dominating his lips.
“Aubrey…” Her mind and heart two separate voices, she tried to block all thoughts. He seemed to sense her confusion and only grinned wider, advancing on his prey. She pressed her back against the wall, breathing slowly, afraid of him for the first time. She’d seen him fight, many times for her, and knew how strong he was. She’d also seen him loose control once. Something she never wanted to see again.
